Birth Justice Murmuration
Register here, any or all of these five conversations to help develop our Landscape Analysis. Discuss who is doing what and why in the birth justice movement.
A deep understanding of community led strategies through a national birth justice landscape analysis will allow birthworkers, activists, researchers, donors, and policymakers to identify key strategies for collective impact, enable tangible improvements, and scale up.
The process will include pathways for individuals, invited organizations, and sponsors to engage and inform the report. This murmuration series invites the whole ecology of folks to join us in virtual space to discuss:
Week 1 –– What is birth justice?
Week 2 –– Why do people do birth justice?
Week 3 –– The who, what, when, and where of birth justice (Who is doing birth justice, what are they doing, when, and where?)
Week 4 –– Who/what is fueling, funding, and sustaining birth justice?
Week 5 - We will circle back to a topic that needs further discussion or cover a new topic that emerged in the previous weeks.
Register here for any one week or all of the series.

2023 Birth Justice Tribunal
The 2023 Birth Justice Tribunal is a people’s tribunal to end obstetric racism and obstetric violence.
This fall, individuals and families will come together from across the country-- in New York (10/6) and Memphis (12/1)-- to share personal stories of mistreatment and discrimination during the perinatal period, and demand systemic change.
To get involved, enter your contact information here.
If you have an experience of obstetric racism or obstetric violence that you would like to share at the tribunal you can indicate your interest here or aquí en Español.
To learn more about what obstetric racism and obstetric violence are, and possibly make a complaint to the Office for Civil Rights, visit this page on our website: https://www.elephantcircle.net/ocr
That page will also provide some examples of how discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, and disability often show up in the perinatal period. Obstetric racism and obstetric violence are forms of discrimination.
This short write-up by If/When/How and These Waters Run Deep can help you learn about the history of people’s tribunals and some examples of tribunals related to sexual and reproductive health.

Find the recording here.
Access Passcode: BirthEquity2021!
This panel features midwives from across the country, Nikia Grayson, Marinah Farrell, Jhoanna Galvez, and Mimi Niles talking about Midwives as the Original First Responders. The importance, but underutilization, of midwives in the U.S. has become particularly apparent. What is it like when midwives are seen as first responders? How might they be racial justice first responders?
And stay tuned for more from our partners Soul 2 Soul Sisters who will be hosting an event to further amplify these issues June 7, 2021.

Community Engagement in Policy Change
Learn more about how to engage in policy change!
A hearing for one of our birth equity bills will be happening tomorrow afternoon and will likely overlap with this event - so we are inviting people to tune into the committee hearing and then join us in Zoom to deconstruct and debrief the committee hearing. This is the first of many committee hearings and will give you a chance to see the process up close and then hear from experts to better understand.
To tune into the hearing go to https://leg.colorado.gov/ and then “Watch and Listen.”
From there go to “Colorado Senate” and find the Health and Human Services Committee. Click on that to be taken in to the committee.
Then join us here, when the Direct Entry Midwives portion of the hearing ends.
